Will my child be confused if they start to learn a second language so early in life?

Studies have shown that supporting a child’s home language is very important for enhancing academic performance, even in cases where the language spoken at school is not the same as the language spoken at home. Infancy and early childhood are critical periods for language development. During these periods, all children have their highest potential to learn multiple languages without special effort.

How much screen time is ok for my child?

Studies suggest that children aged 2 – 6 can use screens for a maximum of 2 hours each day without harming their development. Recent research also suggests that it’s not so much the length, but the quality of the screen time that matters. Older children should balance media use with other healthy behaviour.

What are the benefits of being bilingual?

Current research has confirmed that bilingual children learn faster, and that learning languages also supports other types of learning. The cognitive effects of bilingualism are positive through the entire lifespan, and even include protection against some forms of dementia in old age.

Why is it important for families to share the same stories?

Good books are read many times and can provide important reference points which help family members to relate. Kids often have favourite stories they love to hear over and over again and this desire for repetition is a great tool for learning a new language.

Do you have audio of the stories?

Yes! We currently offer native narration in English (UK & US), Spanish (EU & LA), French, Italian, German & Mandarin. Just tap anywhere on the text to hear. We will be adding audio to more languages soon.

The audio doesn’t seem to be playing. What can I do?

Start by checking that the volume on your device isn’t set to zero. If you’re on iOS, you should also make sure that the ringer on your device isn’t set to silent. Test the audio on another app and see if it’s working there. If it is and it’s still not working on Unuhi, then please make sure that the audio icon doesn’t have a bar across it. If it does, then click the audio icon to enable audio. Finally, check that the language selected is one which has audio support (currently English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Mandarin Chinese).

Please restart your device to reset the memory.

If none of those things work, we’re really sorry! Please get in touch via the Help Centre to report the issue.

Will I lose my purchases if I buy a new device?

Definitely not! If you ever reset or lose your iPad, the Unuhi app will always be tied to your apple ID so you can simply download the app again and go to Settings > Restore Purchases within the app at any point.

Can I read the books offline? For example, on an aeroplane?

There are often times when you don’t have an internet connection for your iPad. With that in mind, we have built Unuhi in a way that allows you to read all our books offline. However, please note that in order to purchase one of the paid books, you will need an internet connection in order to connect to the Apple App Store so if you are planning on going abroad or know that you won’t have internet, it’s worth making this purchase in good time.

Are all of the books translated into the same number of languages?

Yes, all our books are available in all 20 languages that the app supports. Do let us know if there is a language not currently offered that you would like.

Can I be kept up to date about new releases?

Yes. Simply sign up for our newsletter and we will keep you informed. Also don’t forget to check out our social media pages. We are @UnuhiApp on Facebook, Instagram & Twitter.
